Welcome to Healthy Living!

Most of us want to live a healthier life, but it is sometimes a daunting task trying to sift through the often-conflicting information we are given, in an effort to find what will work for us. We have all heard the ongoing debate about whether low-carb diets are healthy or bad for us and the varied opinions about which carbs we should be eating. There is the accepted opinion that coffee/caffeine has a harmful effect on your life and then the newer opinion that it is actually beneficial. The same is true for alcohol - red wine to be specific - does it kill brain cells or does is that negated due to the positive, healthy effects it seems to have on the heart? These debates are only the tip of the iceberg . . .
While the previous issues address what we should and shouldn't be eating, there is also the question of what to do if we have developed some ill effects (not feeling well, no energy, weight gain, disease) and want to reverse them. There are so many possible solutions. Do we fast - and if so what kind of fast (juice, water, fruit)? Do we need to detox? If so - how? Herbal cleanses, colonics, saunas, body wraps, sea water baths, Epsom salt baths? What herbs will help heal our bodies and in what quantities? And what about the alternative therapies: massage, Reiki, bio-feedback, hypnotherapy, meditation, light therapy, aromatherapy (to name only a few!)? Which of these would help us in our particular situation?
How to make sense of all this information? We would like to have this site be a place to discuss which things have worked for us (or haven't) and hopefully by sharing our experiences we will be able to help each other wade through all the possibilities and find our own paths to a Healthy Life!

Is there a natural Candida cleanse?

Looking for real information on a natural Candida cleanse? You're not alone!

A Candida infection is what is more commonly known as a yeast infection. Though both men and women can be afflicted, the most common type is the vaginal yeast infection.

Symptoms include an abnormal discharge, as well as inflammation of the vaginal area. The discharge is often yellowish or whitish in color, thick, and has a noticeable odor that varies from woman to woman. This first symptom is accompanied by a burning or itching sensation in the vaginal area caused by the excess of yeast found there.

Since the symptoms can be uncomfortable and problematic, it is only natural to seek a remedy. Many search for some sort of Candida cleanse, or some way to rid the body of the yeast that is causing the infection.

Most over the counter remedies offer this treatment in a form that claims to physically wash away the yeast. The most common form is the douche. Though the approach may seem to make sense, a sort of cleansing system that will wash the yeast away, this is not always the case. The vagina has a very delicate balance, and oftentimes douches can actually do more harm than good. By douching, you tamper with the natural bacterial balance of the vagina, which can actually cause more harm.

Instead, a Candida cleanse that involves the whole body is more beneficial than just the topical cleansing procedure of douching. What exactly does this mean? It means that focus should be put on cleansing the body of excess yeast, before the actual physical symptoms occur. But first it is important to understand how daily habits can actually effect the level of yeast found in the body.

For example, specific foods can increase yeast production. In addition, certain types of clothing and personal hygiene habits can increase yeast production by creating an environment in which it more easily survives. When considered from this perspective, it becomes evident why it is important to focus on a Candida cleanse that involves the entire body.

A yeast infection is the overgrowth of the Candida fungus in your system. Normally candida is regulated by acidophilus - a probiotic bacteria in your body. When there is an imbalance due to:

- poor hygiene (using antibacterial or scented soaps)
- a diet high in sugars and yeast
- a low intake of probiotics from diet
- sexual irritation
- hormonal changes (as in pregnancy or during menstruation)
- antibiotic intervention
- low immune levels during a cold...

...you can get a yeast infection.

Yes you can pass an infection to your partner during intercourse.

The signs and symptoms of a yeast infection are:

- white, cottage cheese-like discharge
- may or may not have an odor
- dryness
- bleeding from irritated skin
- painful urination
- painful intercourse (intercouse NOT recommended when you have and infection)
- a feeling of just not being normal
- itchiness
- burning
- soreness
- digestive problems

Here are some safe, natural cures you can implement.

Avoid Sugars
Avoid sugars and complex carbs for a week. they "feed" the Candida fungus.

Clothing
If you're not treating the infection with the Tree Tea Oil solution mentioned below, air out the infected area while you're sleeping at night. Oxygen kills yeast. Don't wear underwear. Or wear cotton underwear during the day.

Grapefruit Seed Extract
Add grapefruit extract to your water during the day (raises acid levels in the body). This will decrease the candida in your body.

Probiotics
Eat probiotics like cottage cheese and yogurt. They will increase the acidophilus in your system and this in turn will fight off the candida yeast. You can also take acidophilus supplement pills.

Hygiene
Shower frequently. Avoid scented soaps and antibacterial soaps. Don't take baths while you have the infection. If you go to the gym, shower immediately when you get home.

Diet
Drink lots of water and eat plenty of fiber to flush the infection out of your body. As a yeast infection goes away, the candida albicans release toxins which increase symptoms temporarily. Flushing these toxins out with water will speed your recovery.

Tea Tree Oil
Apply tea tree oil to the infection by applying it to a tampon and keep it inserted overnight. You can also just apply the Tea Tree Oil directly to the irritated area.

The Yogurt Cure
Get some unsweetened yogurt. That means no sugar or aspartame. Fage yogurt works well for its additional yeast cultures. Dip a tampon in the yogurt and insert the tampon for several hours (5-7) at a time. Repeat the process until the infection goes away.

The probiotic bacteria in the yogurt kills the infection quickly.
